This post has as purpose to let you relax and enjoy this holiday’s week without worrying about what is going to be posted on 4MTL as we will not post anything daily on your favorite blog.

This week only then, let yourself pig out with the turkey and shake hairy uncles’ hands and even sing some famous christmass songs if you really want to.

We will be back on Monday december 28 with an explosive schedule and new modifications that you’ll appreciate for sure…

The photographers all have respected the theme, while interpreting it differently. For some of them, the theme lead them to a certain expressionism, but for most of them, realism was the key, with a particular attention to the details of everyday life. Like we wanted it: no photos of the Olympic Stadium, no photos of the Mont-Royal, no photos of St-Joseph Oratory, but rather photos of anonymous people, of more or less unknown places, in short of Montreal that we meet in the street every morning while going to school of work.

I would also like to share with you two personal remarks. First, I notice that my favorite pictures we those that made the most original use of color, often by contrasting lively colors on a colder background. The moderation is the key: too colorful seems to be like not enough. Secondly, I think that the realism in the image, that was forced for many by the use of digital cameras, gave the most interesting results. Certainly because cameras have for first goal to capture in an exact way instants of a visual reality, and the photos that didn’t seek to modify this reality are those that had the bigger effect on me. Of course, those are only my opinions, and I’d love to hear about yours.

Finally, I want to thank all the photographs involved for their great generosity. Not only did they gave some of their time for absolutely no money, but they also took the project seriously, which explain the great quality of the photos that we received. I have the pleasure to name them again:

Last Friday, Designer Drugs were visiting us at the S.A.T. with SaintWoods DJs, Love Thy Brother and Kid Aloha. 4MTL in association with MWTB and Maladroits Video were there in order to immortalize this amazing night of fun!

Last Saturday, while we were talking to you about photos, the Bloody Beetroots stopped at Telus Theatre to add some chaos to the Halloween Party of Saint Woods.

At 12:30, Kid Ahola started the party with the best electro of the year. At 1:00, Love Thy Brother surprised us with a all over the place musical selection. At 2:00, the 1200 people crowd was well ready to welcome the heroes of the night: the Bloody Beetroots. The first song : Warp 1.9. The last song : Warp 1.9. Between the two… we’ve come up blank.

We have to thank Geoffroy Hays for immortalizing a very special thing: anarchy à l’italienne.

Let’s not talk about Halloween: instead I will present you a project on which I’ve been working for about a month.

The title of the project is: Montreal Subjective. The concept is simple: I aksed 20 young Montreal-based photographers to take a photo that suggest their personal vision of the city. I chose this theme, because it will give us the chance to see many different sides of the city rather than 20 postal card photos of the Mont-Royal.

Starting Monday, we will publish 1 photo every day of the week during all of November on the home page of 4MTL. You will also be able to see all the pictures together in a special album of our photo section. I hope that you will examine and compare the pictures to have a better understanding of the different styles and techniques of photography and of the different sides of our beautiful city.

On October 17th, 4MTL was at the lauch of Les Trois Accords’ new album, intitled Dans Mon Corps. We wanted to know what had become the band who hypnotized Quebec in 2003 with Gros Mammouth Album Turbo. Confettis, trumpet and rock’n roll were to be found.

You problaly don’t know them but they know you, and more than you think. They have just released out a book. Who are them? No one else than Culture Montréal. The reason for poping out with that ? To promote the right, the access and the participation of montreal people toward the culture. According to those facts, we want to know more about that subject, and here are five of the most important points we need to remember about them.

• To regroup

To animate an organisation who are a dynamique place of mobilisation of persons that love and support Culture Montreal.

• Informed

To develop and support the public intervention with some activities documentations, some researches, with some analyzes and the diffusion of the information.

• Sensitize

To do some multilateral action in case to favorise the recognition and the popular support for the culture who think that the diversity of the Montreal culturals activities is really important.

• Concerted

Maintant the relation with different cultural, socio-economic and local partners. All of this to be sur to favorise the establisment of the cultural priorities in Montreal.

• Intervene

To bring out the common stakes near of the private and public decisional instance. To favorise the participation of the cultural places in Montreal. To show that our society is compose with a variety of people who come from different place, different organization who practice different thing organization.

4MTL in collaboration with Tommy Desrochers and Geoffroy Hays approached Girl to plagiarize a very popular concept in Europe which consists in filming a band while they play one of their songs in a very unusual place, i.e. in the street. Girl understood it quite literally. Here’s the result.
